What's accessibility?
Digital accessibility means everyone, including people with visual, auditory or motor impairments, can perceive, understand and interact with your content. Under the EAA, many EU websites and apps must be compliant by June 2025. In the USA websites and apps must comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
European Union
The European Accessibility Act mandates that private-sector web sites and apps meet accessibility standards by 28 June 2025 (legacy sales until 2030), with exemptions only for micro-enterprises (up to 10 employees or €2 M turnover ). For non-compliance fines are up to €100 K in Germany, €50 K in France, or 10 % of turnover in Poland.
USA
Under the ADA, any business website deemed a "place of public accommodation" must adhere to recognized standards (courts default to WCAG 2.1 AA), covering everything from simple landing pages to complex web apps For non-compliance, DOJ civil penalties run up to $75 K for a first violation and $150 K for repeats, while private lawsuits typically settle for $10K-$50K.
