JugendWAVE
JugendWAVE is an Austrian NGO focused on organizing educational and scientific events for university students. Their goal is to promote science through engaging, competitive experiences. One of their most recognizable projects is Integration Bee Austria and International Integration Bee Federation existing in Austria, Poland, Czechia and Slovenia. Integration Bee is a live tournament where high achieving university students solve integrals on stage in front of an audience.
The challenge
Build a new interactive platform
The client had only a basic website and needed a complete digital platform to manage all aspects of their tournament, from participant management and problem editing to public information and sponsor visibility. The goal was to combine a refreshed web presence with powerful internal tools, while keeping everything intuitive for organizers and accessible to participants.

After several consultations with JugendWAVE’s president and our experts, we outlined a two-layer system: a public-facing website for outreach and a secure internal environment for tournament operations. The plan prioritized modular architecture, allowing for flexible development and gradual expansion. We established three core objectives: to digitize the competition workflow, enable real-time presentation of integrals during the event, and create a content management system that can evolve with future editions. Each component was designed to be independently maintainable and integrated under a consistent user experience.

Our solution
The platform is structured as a public website paired with an internal management environment. A new brand identity was introduced with a standardized color palette and an updated logo to ensure a cohesive interface across both parts.
The CMS enables editors to manage pages, images, news, and sponsor sections with pagination and comments, while role management separates access for a multi-member team.
The integral editor supports grouping by series, difficulty and authorship metadata, live LaTeX preview, and exports to txt, csv, and pdf. An AI input mode lets organizers describe a problem in plain language and receive formatted LaTeX automatically.
During events, a presentation mode displays problems on screen, controls timers, reveals solutions, and supports tie-breakers. Registration forms are tailored per event, and tournament brackets are generated and updated from results.
Additional modules include an ELO-Like ratings system custom designed for this competition's needs using techniques such as simulations and optimization though genetic algorithms. Another module is the Integration Gym, a daily practice game created to keep users engaged in time between events, with answers validated by a symbolic engine.
Accessibility was addressed through following WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and incorporating our accessibility widget, aligning the platform with current compliance requirements.

The future of the platform
As the association expands its projects to new countries and welcomes new teams, the platform continues to evolve to meet changing needs. JugendWAVE regularly introduces new ideas and requirements, and we support them by delivering new functionalities, refining existing features, and maintaining the system across each new edition of the competition. This ongoing collaboration ensures the platform grows together with the organization’s international reach.
